THE CLARE'S TRAVELS AROUND THE WORLD

2025 – August – Quick bit in between

A whole ten days at home. Just about time for Karen for catch up with the washing and start to stress about packing again.

Even so we managed to pack in a Portuguese evening, the North Norfolk Food Festival, a walk around the wedding venue for next year, the cinema, 9 holes of golf, tried Padel tennis for the first time, Karen had her stitches removed, watch Barry complete his first Run Norwich, an appointment at the Norfolk Records Office, a couple of meals out and more medical appointments.

Yes, our lives really are that busy and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We also both have a list of other things we would like to try or take up should we ever have the time.

Watching TV during the day is a rarity for us and is something we do consciously try to avoid. Karen is still one of the few people who likes to turn the news on at 6pm but invariably that is when we are eating. Normally by about 8.30pm we are both sitting down and try to find something that we will both watch if we can’t then Karen chooses, and I read instead.

I have been trying to get back to the gym, but it is in fits and starts with our trips. Karen has still been missing going in the pool for the exercises for her hip whilst her neck wound heals.

Then there has been the return of Mr Mole or rather his descendent who is determined to inflict ever increasing damage upon my back lawn that was still recovering from both last year’s mole activity and the acrid weather over the summer. As I write this there has been no signs for 3 days so hopefully the traps the mole catcher man laid might have caught the blighter.

All of this whilst the world continues to spin round. I find myself despairing with politics increasingly. The current Government seem to be sleepwalking into passing power to the Reform party. They only need to solve one problem, and then public may be more receptive to their other policies (although I exclude anything by Rachel from Accounts in that). Just stop the boats (but ensure a legal route for true asylum seekers) and Reform would have their current raison d’etre pulled from under them.

I believe we have the right to protest at home and the right to protest with the opposite view. But it should be done peacefully. If you are violent or disruptive to others, then you get what you deserve. The problem is the Renta mobs on both sides who go along to just because. These thugs are just looking for trouble and some of them seem proud of the number times they have been arrested for whatever their current cause is.

There are also those who are trying to ‘reclaim’ the flag. I am all for this. It is wrong that our flag has been hijacked by the far right. Every other country is proud of their flag, but we are embarrassed what it has come to stand for.

Now flags are being put up now by some genuine apolitical people but it is still being seen that they are just supporting the anti-asylum viewpoint rather than it just being an attempt to display support for our country. As ever that may have been badly worded but I know what I mean and I hope anyone reading this knows what I am trying to say.

And so, onto this trip our currently non golfing – golf holiday trip to the Algarve with 4 other couples. Almost a year in the planning and the weather should be lovely when we get there. And we get to fly from Norwich which is a real bonus.
